WHAT IS A LITEBOOK?
The Litebook® is a
revolutionary product, significantly improving upon twenty years of
its predecessors' design and technology. The Litebook® (US Patents
Pending) resembles the popular 'palm-top' electronic organizer in
sleek appearance, and in its injection-molded ABS plastic case.
Unlike existing products of its kind, which are large and clunky in
design, The Litebook® is extremely compact, durable, lightweight,
portable, and aesthetically pleasing.
Most
significantly, The Litebook® employs bright-white light-emitting
diodes (LEDs) as the light source. Possibly the most revolutionary
innovation in lighting since the invention of the light bulb, bright
white LED's emit an astonishingly bright, narrow beam of light,
consume 1/10th the power of a comparable incandescent light bulb,
are rated to last up to 100,000 hours, generate no harmful UV rays
and almost no heat, and are virtually indestructible.

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO USE THE
LITEBOOK?
Usage varies with the individual. Usage times are
typically 15-60 minutes per day. Ideal usage time is the morning, as
early as possible. Additional usage is indicated mid-day and early
evening, as desired. Usage is recommended daily between early fall
and late spring.

CAN I USE MY LITEBOOK IN MY VEHICLE?
The
Litebook® and Time Traveler™ operate on AC or DC power, permitting
use in a vehicle (through a power port or cigarette lighter).
However, due to the intensity of the light source, it is recommended
that they NOT be used by the driver while operating a vehicle (night
vision is adversely affected by bright light).
The Litebook®
and Time Traveler™ may be used safely by the driver while the
vehicle is parked or stationary, provided the user waits several
minutes prior to operating the vehicle.
Passengers may
enjoy using The Litebook while the vehicle is in motion. Because The
Litebook® is designed as a personal light device, this should not
interfere with the safe operation of a vehicle.

Light Therapy FAQ
From Apollo
This "Questions and Answers" page is intended to provide readers with general information about the current uses of light therapies. No medical instruction or advice is intended. It is suggested that all interested persons seek the advice of a skilled clinician.
How does light therapy work?
Exposures to intense artificial bright light suppress the secretion of the night time hormone melatonin, and may enhance the effectiveness of serotonin and other neurotransmitters. It is the only effective means of shifting circadian rhythms.

What lamps are more effective? What wavelength of light is needed?
The important factor contributing to physiological responses to light is the intensity of light that reaches one's eyes. Some people enjoy the ambient color that full-spectrum (daylight color) lamps produce, but no therapeutic effects have been documented from the use of average intensities of full-spectrum light. Apollo's Brite Lite IV is designed to produce the proper high-intensity light treatment without damaging UV.

What intensity is needed and for how long?
Most people who suffer from SAD or winter blues use a 10,000 Lux therapy early in the morning for about one-half hour. 10,000 Lux is 20 times the intensity of average indoor ambient light. Timing of light therapy varies for each individual.
What type of light unit is needed? Can one use a standard ceiling fixture?
To achieve the intensity of 10,000 Lux, with standard fluorescent technology, one would need to build a light unit with 8, 4-ft. tubes. An individual can not receive the proper intensity of light from a standard ceiling fixture because the ceiling lights are too far away and not oriented towards the users eyes.
Will insurance cover the cost of a new fixture?
Many insurance companies have reimbursed the purchase price of light fixtures for the treatment of SAD, PMS, sleep disorders, and mal-adaptation to shift work.
