APOLLO LIGHT THERAPY:
For thousands of years man has depended on the healing benefits of light. And physicians have long noted an increase in depressive problems was related to the lack of sunlight. Socrates may have been the first to prescribe light therapy for depression. When he noticed a winter melancholy, he recommended his patients flee to the southern coasts to soak in the sun.
35 million Americans suffer from the lack of light The
benefits of light therapy have not been chemically understood
however, until recently. Light therapy was ‘discovered’ in the early
eighties by the National Institute of Health. Dr. Norman Rosenthal,
then the Chief Section Head of Environmental Science, noticed
patients with reoccurring symptoms that coincided with the winter
months. After much scientific experimentation, the NIH concluded
that a very real winter depression exists in about 35 million
Americans, directly as a result of the lack of sunlight.
Since the first findings on light therapy, thousands of studies
have been done exploring the effect of light on mankind. These
studies have illuminated our understanding of light and how critical
it is to basic health. One of these studies shows that the basic
building block for blood, or the heme molecule, is almost identical
to the chlorophyll molecule in plants, and that both molecules react
the same way to light.
Serotonin & melatonin Other studies have proven that
specific wavelengths of light chemically suppresses the production
of melatonin, the hibernation and withdrawal hormone responsible for
SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. And more studies have proven
that bright therapeutic light will immediately produce serotonin,
the hormone responsible for energy and mood.
Out of rhythm The NIH also discovered that light reacts with
your brain’s control center, called the Suprachaismatic Nucleus
(SCN) to control the daily production and release of these essential
hormones. This daily cycle is called your circadian rhythm. When the
SCN doesn’t receive the necessary signals of light, it shuts down
the production of these hormones. This imbalance is referred to as
Circadian Rhythm Disorders, and medical journals report that most
mood disorders are linked to circadian rhythm disorders. This makes
sense when you realize that the SCN is responsible for controlling
the hormones that affect your mood and energy.
Repairing your circadian rhythm Since the discovery of
circadian rhythms in the early 80's, Apollo has been involved with
the National Institute of Health (NIH) and leading research centers
to find an answer for these disorders. In 1986, the National
Institute of Health discovered a special type of bright light (about
20 times brighter than indoor light) could safely reset your body
clock without harmful side effects. Since then we've also discovered
specific bandwidths of light that will suppress the withdrawal
hormone, melatonin, while other bandwidths produce active hormones
such as serotonin.
BRITEWAVE™ technology Over the past two decades, Apollo has
refined this specialized light through dozens of clinical studies,
and partnerships with leading research universities and hospitals
worldwide. This specialized process is known as BRITEWAVE™
technology.
BRITEWAVE's technology combines the specific wavelengths, color
spectrum, treatment field and intensity that stimulate active brain
chemicals such as serotonin while suppressing the withdrawal
hormone, melatonin.
Safety First BRITEWAVE™ produces no harmful UV, and bathes you
with light that is comfortable to use and easy on your eyes. After
neary 20 years of use, studies have found no negative side effects
from BRITEWAVE™ light.
Benefits of BRITEWAVE Because of BRITEWAVE, light therapy is
much more effective. BRITEWAVE boosts special bandwidths that are
five times more effective at suppressing melatonin, the main hormone
responsible for SAD. BRITEWAVE also boosts the serotonin producing
wavelengths, increasing your quality of response in less time. With
BRITEWAVE, 15 minutes/day produces the same response that used to
take two hours or more. This technology is one reason why Apollo
enjoys a 98% response rate, and why our products are used by more
researchers, hospitals and doctors than any other
brand.
LITEBOOK LIGHT THERAPY:
It has been said that today we live in a light-deprived world, and that we are paying for it with our health. Research has shown that most of us suffer from a lack of sufficient sunlight in our lives. We spend the majority of our day working indoors with little or no bright light and then rush home to spend more time indoors to read, watch television, use the computer, listen to music, or exeRCIonse. This daily routine does not lead us to feel our best.
Winter makes it especially hard to get the light we need because the days are shorter and we tend to spend even more time indoors. This can lead to low energy, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and trouble sleeping.
Our bodies are designed to function at optimum levels when we receive adequate bright light. Our ancestors typically spent most of their time outdoors, primed each morning by the rise of the sun. Today we rise with the sound of an alarm clock, and get little or no bright sun in the morning, leaving us groggy and unprepared for the day ahead.
Research has shown that supplementing our exposure to light can have a positive influence on our wellbeing...
The Litebook Company is dedicated to being a leading advocate and supporter of ongoing light research worldwide, and to being the information and educational source of choice for discriminating consumers the world over who are interested in this exciting area of well-being.
